A Kitten and His Playmate; a Short Story


Exuberant paws padded jovially across the warm, brown carpet as the kitten bounded after its tabby sibling. The brother was speedy, indeed. A blur of brown fur zoomed behind the plush navy couch in an attempt to conceal himself from his feisty playmate. Ears bent back flat against his tiny head, the kitten awaited his chance to pounce.

Shortly after and with no great haste, the tabby strolled into view. Wiggling his rear end and tail in that genuine feline manner, the brown one made his risky move. A playful cry escaped the astonished tabby as the pair toppled over; claws and teeth zealously bared.

The young, agile tabby sprung away from his brother, scampering off in the opposite direction. Suddenly, he stopped and whipped around; tail swishing madly and golden eyes glimmering mischievously. A near visible smirk appeared on the tabby's features as he made a dash for his sibling; the whole process beginning again to the delight of the kittens.

A good while later, the brown kitten lay exhausted on his favorite patch of carpet under a window. An inkling of sunlight cascaded down upon his sleek fur, warming him comfortably. The tabby had tuckered him out for certain, but he'd sure had a whale of a time. Feet resting perfectly under his chin, the kitten allowed his sparkling emerald eyes to close, slipping into a delightful state of calm, leisurely slumber.
